All changes to this file # will be lost. に書き換えられます。つまり、インストール時に CUPS を入れなければ、 「printtool 云々」が表示され、CUPS を入れれば、「automatically generated by cupsd(8)」が出る。ということは、たいていの場合、混乱は起きないですむ、 ということではないでしょうか。 もっとも、インストール時に CUPS を入れておいて、あとで LPRng を使う ように変更した場合、やはり「# This file was automatically generated by cupsd(8)」と表示され、「printtool 云々」のコメントには一度も出会え ないのではないかと思います。この場合、「printtool 云々」が出た方が 親切なのでしょうが、printcap を cat で読むほどの人なら、困らないかも しれませんね。 前のメールでひとつ書き忘れたことがあるので、ついでに書いておきます。 こういったことはすでに御存知でしょうけれど。 LPRng をインストールして使う場合は、chkconfig などで印刷デーモンとして lpd のみを使うよう設定するだけでなく、alternatives という仕組みを使って lpr などに LPRng のコマンドを使うように指定する必要もあります。 /sbin/update-alternatives --config print オンラインマニュアルの /usr/share/doc/Vine/manuals/vine-lprng.html に 解説があります。 -- 長南洋一
