とあったので下のように実行したところ
$ saslauthd -v
saslauthd 2.1.23
authentication mechanisms: getpwent kerberos5 rimap shadow ldap
のように pam が含まれておりません。なお、Vine5.2の環境で見ると
$ saslauthd -v
saslauthd 2.1.23
authentication mechanisms: getpwent kerberos5 pam rimap shadow ldap
のように pam が含まれております。
