岩本です。長文で申し訳ないです。
新しめのマザーでマシンを組んで Vine を入れてみましたので、報告と、
質問です。
マシン ASUS A7V600 + Athlon 2500+ + DDR400 512M
Matrox G450
１，インストール
Vine 2.6CR の CD-ROM より問題なく GUI Install 可能。
Install 後、再起動すると APIC がらみのエラーで落ち、boot 不可。
BIOS 設定で割り込みを APIC → PIC に変更することで、2.6CR の
標準 2.4 kernel でも boot できました。
（なぜか noapic パラメータは効果なし）
その後 2.4.20-0vl29.1 に update すると BIOS を APIC にしたままでも
起動可能でした。
２，New South bridge VT8237
boot はできましたが、VIA IDE driver に「そんな south 知らん、DMA
OFF にするぞ」と怒られ DMA ON にできません。
2.4.22-pre3 あたりで対応済みでしたので、2.4.20-0vl29.1 に backport
して DMA ON で問題なく動作しています。
認識状況は以下のように。

３，Gbit Ether 3C940

から落とせる 2.4.21 向けの patch が 2.4.20-0vl29.1 に問題なく当た
ります。
/etc/modules.conf に
alias eth0 sk98lin
と書けばあとは通常の設定と同じです。100BASE-TX の Hub しか持ってい
ないので、1000BASE 時の動作の確認はできていません。

４，AGP 3.0
どーも KT400 あたりから AGP2.0 が切って捨てられたらしく、
AGP aperture を正しく認識してくれません。
AGP 3.0 のサポートは 2.5/6 の kernel から、というのが流れらしく
途方に暮れていたところ…ちゃんと 2.4 系に 2.5 系から backport
してる方がおられました。感謝！！

2.4.20-0vl29.1 に問題なく当たり、AGP aperture を正しく認識して
くれるようになりました。
認識状況は以下のように。

５，残件
On Board Sound がうまく鳴らせていません。
kernel 付属のドライバは AC97 codec の AD1980 のサポートが無いよう
なのでさっくりとパス。
alsa 0.9.5 を試してみましたが、

と言われ AD1980 を認識してくれないようです。（ちょっと自信なし）
AD1980 がつながってる VT8237 をうまく認識できていないせいかも
しれないです。
この辺の情報お持ちの方、なにかあればよろしくお願いします。
テストに協力もいたします。
現状 PCI に CM8738 が載ったカードをさしてそっちで鳴らしています。
VT8237 に入った Serial ATA は対応ドライブを持っていないので
全く着手してないっす(^^;
