今井さん、菊地さん、ありがとうございました。

実はSCSIカードとMOは2年前に友人に譲ってもらったもので、説明書などは
持っていないのです。そのためSCSIの名称はわかりませんでした。
ところが、菊地さんの勧めにしたがって/sbin/lspciしたところ、
00:0f.0 SCSI storage controller: Western Digital 33C296A
という記述がありました。これはSCSIコントローラの名前ですよね?
そういえばSCSIカードのチップにWD33C296A-ZXと書いてありました。
そういう意味だったのですね。
さて、Western Digital 33C296Aで検索してみたところ、少なくとも
Linux 2.4.17の時点では対応していなかったこと、Western Digitalが
ドライバ作成に必要な情報を公開していないことがわかりました。

どうやらLINUXに対応した新しいSCSIカードを購入した方がよいようですね。

ただ、僕の考え違いもあるかも知れないので、よろしければ、
/etc/modules.conf 、dmesg、/sbin/lspci 
の実行結果も見て下さい.(長くて申し訳ありません)
