toorukinです。土村さんありがとうございます。

lilo.confに
append="acpi=off apm=on resume2=swap:/dev/hda?"
を加えて/sbin/liloもやってみましたが、やはり暴走してしまいました。

いろいろ試してみて現在、上記に加え
  BIOSの設定でCPUのspeed stepを無効にする
  cpufreqdのデーモンをsetupコマンドでoffにする
をしています。
CPUのクロックが常に最低になってしまいますが、
今のところ暴走はしなくなりました。
